Take Me to the Pilot

Photography, Resin and Acrylic on Wood, 2024 (20x30)

Captured during the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour in Knoxville on April 28, 2022, Take Me to the Pilot is a study in perception and reverence. At first glance, it appears to be a grand portrait of Sir Elton John, yet he lingers quietly in the left-hand corner—small, almost ghostlike—while his band stands at the forefront, dwarfed by the vast proscenium. Towering above them, a luminous projection of Elton himself fills the screen, larger than life, suspended between the real and the reflected.

The image takes on an almost divine presence, a fitting reflection of how we enshrine our idols, elevating them beyond mortality. It calls to mind the essence of Take Me to the Pilot, a song cloaked in mystery, its lyrics echoing themes of faith, surrender, and searching for guidance and for something greater. In this frame, I envision Sir Elton not just as the man but as the myth, guided by his own higher self, forever ascending.

Sharing in this ephemeral musical experience with thousands of others was nothing short of transcendent—a surge of energy that lingers like an echo, a melody never lost to time.

From spotlight to sketch—this Elton John portrait was sparked by the electric energy of his concert. Each frame is a step in the journey, soundtracked by an original, unreleased composition from Sketch Eclectic. Art inspired by music, with music inspiring art.
