Le Rêve Noir du Moulin Rouge (The Dark Dream of the Moulin Rouge) and Le Gardien du Balcon (The Guardian of the Balcony)

Photography, Resin, Acrylic, Oil and Crystal on Wood, 2023 (16x20)

Captured inside the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in NYC, the images invite the viewer into the world of the Moulin Rouge, where the iconic windmill stands as a powerful symbol of the bohemian spirit.

Moulin Rouge, the musical, brings the storied Parisian landmark to life. The vibrant windmill, part of the lavish set design, evokes the decadence and artistry of a bygone era, offering audiences an immersive experience that feels as though they’ve entered the heart of Montmartre itself.

The painting reflects both the dreamlike fantasy of the Moulin Rouge and its darker, more complicated history, where beauty, freedom, love, and truth coexist with the gritty, often painful realities of the time. Though the stories of the women who once graced its stage were fraught with hardship, the Moulin Rouge endures as a symbol of bohemianism, artistic rebellion, and the pursuit of a life lived on one's own terms. In this series, I dream of stepping back in time to witness the folklore of the Moulin Rouge, where the lines between myth and reality blur, and the power of art and expression reign supreme.
